Quick Trip

I made it all the way from my house to the feed store and back without having to stop at a single red light. This is an amazing occurrence. It just never happens. I attribute this to the fact everyone has begun to drive the speed limit, the one the lights are timed for, in an effort to save on gasoline. Whatever the actual reason I successfully drove through a dozen or so green lights one way and back again, it made for a quick trip to get cat food.

I was going to put off going to get it until Lin got home from work, because it’s hot outside and I am feeling very lazy, but there was about to be a full-on cat rebellion. Couldn’t I see they were wasting away before my very eyes?! Of course I brought the food in and dished it out, and they each took one bite each and went to have a nap. Yeah, those cats were just starving to death weren’t they?

  1. I started noticing how much easier and faster my morning commute was getting about three months ago. That 45-50 minute drive is now down to about 35 minutes and I’m driving the speed limit and not running yellow lights. Much more relaxing. Just have to wonder what will happen to those thousands of late model four-door, four-wheel drive, long bed, dual-axle pick-ups so many of our urban cowboys bought with their second mortgages, I mean, ‘home equity loans.’ Those homes twenty-six miles out in the desert that they can’t get fixed loans for or sell. At least the guys with their Sunday vanity motorcycles are getting some unintended benefit.

  2. I always stress about having to go to the feed store, because the street I have to drive down is historically just insane. No one ever drove the speed limit, and that always meant getting caught by every damn light. It’s only 8 miles away, but the trip felt tedious and long and stressful. It was such a breeze today with everyone driving sane. Hope that keeps up.

I also noticed I was one of the few trucks on the road too. We’ve talked about trading it in on something way more economical once it’s paid off, but we do actually use it for truck-requiring things. We’d really miss it. I can’t imagine us strapping lumber to the top of a Prius or miniature electric car. :D

I would so love to have a motorcycle. I love driving them. Totally scary driving one right here in town though. People just don’t see them. Had a scare many years ago, and never really wanted to drive one in town again. Still … great gas mileage!
