Chewed Off

I went outside earlier to label the new plants’ pots so I know what’s what, and I remembered to check on those two cucumber sprouts I stuck in the front flowerbed. Chewed off at the dirt line. One night in the front flowerbed, and they were chewed off by some kind of bug or critter. I’m not upset about the loss of those two sprouts. It was a test, and now I know. I had planned to plant my new cucumber seeds in the front flower bed, but I guess that would be a futile effort. Bah.

I still want to keep my veggie containers in the front yard. Lin still says no to that idea. The argument goes on. ;)

Everything is looking great though! Some more of the snap peas sprouted, and I am definitely going to have to make them a trellis this weekend. They are starting to grab onto the pepper plants. The first tomato I planted is really growing too! The stem is getting nice and thick, and it’s about twice as tall as it was when I got it. The first peppers have also doubled in size. Very exciting!

Though this makeshift container garden of mine isn’t exactly an ideal situation, I am starting to feel confident I will get some edibles for my work. I can’t wait. The veggies are the farmers market blows away the stuff at the grocery store, but nothing compares to veggies you grow yourself.

I think next year we’ll start a proper garden and grow all kinds of stuff. It’d be great if we could have all year long and not really have to buy any veggies at all. I am now considering that my ultimate gardening goal. :)
