Stop, I Have an Image!

A 14 year old wears a stupid shirt to school that has an image of a gun on it, detention ensues, and “an attorney for the school district said school must create a safe environment for students in the post-Columbine era, and bringing even the image of a gun to school violates the district’s policy.”
“There’s a much higher level of sensitivity these days,” Penn Manor attorney Kevin French said. “But it’s based on reality.”
I’d like to know in which reality people are being threatened, injured or killed by images of guns. That’s the reality I’d like to avoid existing in.
I keep reading stories about kids getting in trouble for the stupidest of stuff. Sure, the kid’s shirt was somewhat obnoxious. It might have offended someone, if there was anyone around who didn’t agree with it’s message. But … it’s the image of a gun they just can’t have at school, because our level of sensitivity is set so high that now images of things can harm us. Don’t you just love 21st century America?! Are we the land of the brave or what? USA! USA! USA! ![]()
I’d rant, but it’s late and I shouldn’t even be awake.
