A partially mummified body was found in a bathtub filled with dirt in an apartment that was stacked to the ceiling with garbage and human waste.

Tranter said the body may be that of a man who rented the unit in 1995 and was last seen seven years ago. He said the property owners saw a man they didn’t recognize at the unit four years ago and asked him who he was.

Tranter said the man identified himself as the original renter. The owners didn’t push the issue and continued to receive rent checks.

What sort of landlord sees someone they don’t recognize at one of their rental units, asks who they are, hears the person say they are the original renter, and then goes about business as usual? Slumlords would be my guess, but even of the slumlords I have rented from in the past, every one of them would have known if someone claiming to be me was me or not. Of course, there’s also the question of what sort of landlord leaves one of their rental units totally trashed for extended periods of time, and that answer is definitely “slumlord” isn’t it?
