Great Day!

I was a little worried this morning when we left the house. It was so cold, and it was also super foggy and misty. As I sat in the Home Depot parking lot waiting for Lin to pick up a few things, I started having second thoughts about spending my Saturday morning downtown at a construction site. Then, almost instantaneously, the sun came out, the fog and mist went away, and it ended up being a gorgeous day, so I was glad to be out in it. Still a little too cold for my tastes, but I was having fun and barely noticed.

I had problems getting posts to my blog from my cell phone, so I sent them to LJ instead. Here’s the round-up of silly text messages I made.

7:46 am Heated truck seats are a gift from God.

9:20 am Lin says not to get out of the truck. Danger. Then he parks the truck and me under the crane.

10:33 am I just learned to look both ways before jaywalking on a one way street. There are stupid people who can’t read signs everywhere.

11:16 am Yay! We are going to brunch at Trudy’s!

I made an audio post too, but I am sure it’s almost inaudible. I was, after all, at a construction site with a very noisy crane in operation.

I don’t know how much I walked today, but it was either walk around or sit in the truck, because standing still lead to feeling the cold a bit too much. I took a few hundred photos, most of which didn’t turn out so great. The morning light was weird, and it was still a little hazy. Also, I am not at all used to taking photos in locations with so many reflective surfaces. It was, to say the least, a learning experience with my camera.

The thing I was most amazed about, other than getting to watch a crane in use up close and personal, was how completely dead it was downtown all morning. It was like we had the whole place to ourselves, aside from the joggers. I would have thought, being near the Bob Bullock Museum, right at the edge of the University of Texas, and a few blocks from the state capitol, there might have been at least a few cars or people, but it was a ghost town. Sort of spooky really. I didn’t notice how spooky it was though until the guys were done and the crane powered down. It was so silent, and it was right at noon! Strange.

Kenny had called Lin at some point, and it was decided once we were done at the site, we would meet up at Trudy’s for brunch, which I thought was an awesome idea. I was getting really hungry at this point, and I’d been out of Dr Pepper for about an hour. We tried calling Kenny a few times as we headed north on IH-35, but he didn’t answer. After deciding we still wanted to go to Trudy’s anyway, we headed over there and proceeded to pig out on the breakfast buffet. It was so good. Hunger really is the best sauce!

Then the funniest thing happened. Lin turned and saw Fred, a friend of Kenny’s. He said “hi” to him, and we found out that Kenny was sitting just on the other side of the bar from us! How stupid is that?! He’d left his phone in the truck, which was why he hadn’t answered, and there we all were eating breakfast at the same bar and not noticing. Excellent powers of observation we all have, huh?!

We hung out a bit longer to catch up with Kenny and Fred, and then Lin and I came home and collapsed on the bed. I don’t know what time Lin got up and started playing Neverwinter Nights, but I slept until sunset. None of that wimpy half-sleep either. Nope, I crashed completely in the sunny spot on the bed surrounded by the silly cats. Best sleep I have had in weeks too. Getting up so early (5:30 am as always) and then spending the day walking around out in the sunlight really wore me out. I was pretty worn out anyway, but at least today I got tired doing something fun and interesting … and in the sunlight! Wow, was I ever glad for that sun coming out. That combined with a great brunch and some excellent sleep, and my mood is 100% improved.

I’m too lazy to go through all the photos and then fix them tonight, but I at least want to post this one, which I thought was the cutest picture of the day. That’s Toby menacing Lin with a broom stick. Boss abuse! Boss Abuse!

Boss Abuse

I’ll post a few more over the next few days. Some of the architectural ones turned out interesting, and I’ll have to show you how utterly lacking in activity the whole area was too. But right now, I want to go put some french fries in the oven and some White Castle burgers in the microwave, then I can settle in on the couch and play some Final Fantasy X. Yes, I started playing that one again. Well, I hadn’t played it on the big screen TV yet!

I am so glad I had such a great day. I really needed a great day.
