“Are you a princess?”

That was asked of me at the grocery store today by a sweet little 5 year old. I told her that all girls were princesses. That’s what my dad always told me anyway. She giggled and ran off to look at the yogurt. Her mom explained they had watched a movie the night before and the girl in the movie, a princess trying to be a normal person, had dressed and looked just like me. I giggled. It was funny, because I was wearing what I call my Princess Coat, a long, black, fitted wool coat (the nicest coat I have).

Then I got to the checkout, and there was a new cashier whose line was moving very quickly. Naturally, I jumped right into that line. When I got up to the cashier, she immediately asked “This weather gets you down too?” I guess it shows. We had a nice conversation about seasonal affective disorder while she speedily processed my purchases. It was nice having someone to commiserate with for a few minutes. We agreed to both wish for sunlight for the rest of the day, and maybe tomorrow the weather would listen to us. :D

The store was so empty for a Friday afternoon. I’m sure the weather had a little to do with it, because it is nasty out there today, but usually Friday afternoons are just crazy since most people just got paid. I’m afraid the fact the store gets more and more empty every time I go though has more to do with the economy right now. The prices go up on everything a few pennies every week, and I don’t know how people worse off than us can even afford to buy most stuff anymore. The sad fact is the crappy boxed foods are by far the cheapest thing there is, and it’s the most disgustingly bad for you. I find myself once again thankful we can afford to eat well, and I hope we never find ourselves not having the choice of eating good and healthy foods. I like canned ravioli as much as the next person, but I wouldn’t want to go back to eating it all the time.

I’m hoping the weather is nicer tomorrow do I can go downtown with Lin and run around with my camera a little. I also want to run to the craft store. I thought about doing that after I got the groceries put away, but now that I am home and warm again, I don’t really feel like leaving the house again … not even go buy crafty things, and you know I love to buy crafty things.

The cats have been following me around the house since I got home. I guess I better go give them their daily allotment of kibble. The bowls, you know, have bottoms which are quite visible now, and the babies are beginning to get nervous.
