Cat Diet

Today was Day One of the Cat Diet. No, we aren’t trying to lose weight by only eating cats. As rotund as the beasts that live with us are, we’d never lose weight eating them!

Ronin has simply gained too much weight, and it doesn’t look like it’s stopping. Myu isn’t exactly a petite little thing either. Therefore, I cut back on the food today. Instead of feeding them the daily amount for cats weighing 10-15 pounds, which is what I have been feeding them, and it has successfully produced cats weighing 10-15 pounds (or more in Ronin’s case), I am now feeding them the daily amount for cats weighing 6-10 pounds. It doesn’t look like much, let me tell you.

So far, no complaining from the cats. That’s because their bowls aren’t empty yet. I imagine that in another hour or two, the bowls will have been picked clean, and then the whining will begin. I am not looking forward to the whining.

This is just step one. I have to see if they remain equitable of the sharing of food. They have been excellent about it since we got them. No bickering over the last bite of something or anything like that, but I do worry that might start happening once food becomes a little more scarce. I know full well that Myu will be the one to come out badly in that situation. Hopefully that won’t happen and everyone will adjust to the new feed allotment and keep eating out of their own bowls. So far, so good, but no one us really feeling any true hunger pains yet. If the bickering starts, I’ll have to come up with some plan to feed them so they can’t bicker. That’s not going to be easy, because they are nibblers rather than the sort of cats that sit and eat meals all at one go. Sincerely hoping it doesn’t come to that.

Speaking of eating, it’s time for me to get get the short ribs started. The cats may not be hungry yet, but the humans are starting to feel the need to feed, and the ribs are going to take about two hours to roast. I should have started them earlier. :P
