It Works

So much for convincing Lin I really, really need a brand new double oven stove with five burners. He’d already said “no” to my pleas and whining, but I thought that perhaps the broken oven wasn’t going to be easy to fix or perhaps would be unfixable, so some more whining might convince him. But … when we got back from the market, I moved the worktable and trash can and pulled the stove out so he could look at it, and well, it’s working now. Dammit.

We don’t know if it was the fact I had to unplug it and plug it back in to move the table or the fact Lin turned the regulator valve off and on, but that’s the only two things we did to it, and now it’s working. I’m going to keep a close eye on it, just in case it’s faking me out by working right now and not working later, but I have turned it on and off three times now, and it keeps coming on. I even set it to a higher heat to see if it would cycle on and off properly when in operation, and it seems to be doing that as well. Now I wish I’d pulled it out, unplugged it, and turned the gas valve off and on last weekend. We thought there would be a little more work involved, and potentially buying a part or two, so we put it off until after payday. Double dammit. I could have been baking and roasting all week!

Oh well … count my blessings, right? My oven works again (for now anyway), and tonight we are having roasts pork ribs for dinner. Tomorrow it’ll be a full and proper breakfast with tasty biscuits, and then I am spending the day in the kitchen baking bread.

Speaking of bread, I pulled that unbaked loaf of artisan bread out of the freezer to thaw. I have no idea if it’s going to end up being edible bread, but it was worth experimenting with freezing bread dough. Even if it doesn’t turn out, I will have learned a thing or two. Who knows, maybe it will still turn out to be bread!

I think I’ll go bake some cookies right now, just because I can. Also, that will give me a chance to put my heart at ease that it isn’t going to crap out while I am using it.

Waaaaaaah! My broken oven works and I can’t whine about getting a new one!!! Never happy, am I?
