Not to take away from the bridge that collapsed, but there are other really big things these damn TV news people should take a moment to mention. I know everyone can’t take their eyes off of it, but at this point, constant streaming coverage of people working in the dark to try to find anyone else who may have died (or survived) in the wreckage isn’t really necessary, is it?
Here’s something that should be going out to every home watching TV, especially those with children:
Fisher-Price Toys with Lead Paint Hazard Recall
There has been a recall announcement for Fisher-Price toys representing various Nickelodeon and Sesame Street characters.
They are recalling some 976,000 Mattel Fisher-Price toys … 83 different products. That’s quite a few toys, and they are going to be in quite a few households. Most of the toys seem to be for the much younger age group as well, the ones who tend to put things in their mouths … like toys made in China painted with lead paint.
You can look over a list of the recalled products, with photos, at the Mattel web site, and here’s the New York Times story about the recall.
The bridge collapsing was a horrible thing, but the people involved are already dead or injured. Right now, there’s a kid somewhere drooling on a toy painted with lead paint. Maybe a brief mention on the TV may be in order, yes?
Anyway, if you have kids with toys, check the list. I saw some Dora the Explorer Stuff and other characters I recognized (and I don’t have kids around to keep me informed), so you might have some in your home. I really am going to bed now.
