Ask Orbie - Artwork

On June 14th and 15th you posted 2 pictures titled, ‘Orb Dos‘, and ‘Orb Uno‘, but you never described the photos, so exactly what are they? Are they paintings, of photos? Both are great, but the “Orb Dos” is very well done, it is better than great.

They are neither photos or paintings. Both were created with 3D digital graphics software. Uno was created with a program called Bryce, which I had used for many, many years. Dos was created with a program called Vue, which I have only begun to learn how to use the last few months. Both programs are actually designed for creating 3d landscapes, but I find myself rarely using them for that purpose. I tend to create images like these two with curved reflective surfaces and a few well-placed colored lights. I have fallen in love with Orb Dos myself, and I think one of these days I will render it out in a size large enough to have a poster printed. I printed it out in 8″x10″ on glossy photo paper, and it was just awesome. Now I want to see it larger!

Expect to see more of the same sort of stuff in the future. I don’t have as much time as I once did to just sit at the computer for hours puttering around with graphics programs, but I’m going to try to squeeze in more of that, because it is soooo relaxing to me, and sometimes the end results are pleasing to the eye.

let me know if you ever have it online for sale at whatever that shop was. I’ve already got one of yours framed. I have a spot Orb Dos would look good in too. I need to send you a picture of the other one hung.

I’m looking for someone local to do some prints. Kind of tired of seeing print sell for prices higher than I would charge and only getting a few cents on the dollar out of it, and I like to have my nose all in my own business anyway. Besides, if I do them locally, I can actually, you know, sign them and stuff like a real artist.

But yeah, this one gets printed larger than 8×10. Everyone I have shown the small print too loves it and wants a bigger one. I’ll let you know when that’s about to happen.

My home is full of different types of art, but in my whole life I have only purchased 2 photographs; yes I know these aren’t photgraphs. Rarely do I ever go a to an art show which has photographs, that any of them catches my eye, and it is even more of a rare occurrence that I actually stop and take a second look, and maybe speak to the artist. Should you ever find that person to do your prints, please keep me in mind as I would be very interested in purchasing one of your “Orb Dos”…signed of course

I’ve got two print-houses here in town that have the large format printers running I want used. I’m just going to have to see if they know how to use them and how much they want for it. Maybe have them do one and see if I like it.

There will likely be endless posts about it when I get to that stage.
