In a strange and unprecedented move, I just paid for a Hip Hip song on iTunes. It’s no secret I can’t stand Hip Hop, or at least I did hate it until I ran across Bomani “D’Mite” Armah (auto-play music warning). Yeah, I actually like his stuff. The song that lead to me discovering I might like his work? Read a Book … the video for which you can see at YouTube. It made me laugh so hard! Then I listened to some more of his stuff on his web site and at iTunes. Turns out, I like much of his work. Who knew there was good Hip Hop out there?!
I thought about buying a whole album right off the bat, but instead I just bought Read a Book. We’ll see if I still like him in a week or two, and then maybe I’ll finish up the album. Maybe not though. I am very much of the “buy a single song I like” mindset. That’s been working pretty well for me so far. Even with groups I really, really love, I almost never love the whole album.
I’m going to put my new song on repeat, crank my iMac as loud as it will go, and go start dinner. :)
Behind the cut, the lyrics for those who would rather not hear it (or see it), though I have to tell you, the video is good.
