Nasty Day

Well, we lost electricity for a little while. Then when it came back on, we were without cable and internet. I entertained myself by crawling up in the attic to see where the leaks are. I only found one, and I think it may be responsible for the bathroom and kitchen ceiling problems. The attic vent is leaking … badly. I also got a good look at the actual wooden structure we call a roof, and I don’t even want to talk about it. Can’t complain too much, we did buy an old house. Construction wasn’t what it is today back in 1959. Not that I think brand new houses are built all that well either, but the quality of the wood used in the roof is less than satisfactory (to me, who knows what Lin thinks). We’ll have to live with it. I don’t see us replacing the entire roof structure. We’ll be doing great if we can get two days in a row when Lin doesn’t have to work and it doesn’t rain to get the shingles replaced.

After that little expedition into the great unknown over my head, I went to work prepping the pork shoulder roast for roasting. It’s a fine-looking slab of pig. I decided to coat it in Worcestershire sauce and then pack the outside with brown sugar. Normally I would have chosen to put some apple juice in the bottom of the pan, but not having any and not want to go out in the rain to get any, I opted for orange juice. I think it’ll be fine. Now all that’s left to do on the roast is wait for about five or so hours before checking on it. Did I mention it’s a HUGE roast? It is, and I want to cook it low and slow. By my estimation, it should be falling off the bone tender by about 8 pm. Good thing it’s a cool and rainy day. Sitting in the house with the oven going for 8 hours would have been miserable otherwise. :)

I could do the dishes now, but instead I am going to make the more juvenile choice and plop my behind on the couch to play some Final Fantasy XII. Lin got home just as I turned it on yesterday, so I only got to play for about an hour before the whining started. Then when I was saving my game, he said “My god, look, you have already played for 14 hours!” Um, yeah, moron. I restarted the game some four weeks ago, and I have ONLY played for 14 hours since then. That’s crazy! I should be at least 80 hours into it by now! ;)

Yeah, definitely time to pour myself a tall glass of Dr Pepper and get my game on!
