Sorta A Scam

When you buy Vue, you get a voucher for their community store. $15 … which isn’t too shabby. Free stuff is free stuff, right? I got an email the other day reminding me it was about to expire, so I popped over there tonight and dug through all the objects, materials, tutorials and whatnot they have for sale. Most of the things I really wanted couldn’t be bought with the voucher (figures), but I managed to find a few things that added up to $15.45. I went over. No biggie, as I am certain I can spare 45 cents out of my mad money account. I go to checkout.

The options for payment are Paypal, Credit Card, and Store Account. I select store account, because the Credit Card option is going to charge me for the whole thing and not use my voucher. I figure it will give me an option to make up the difference with some other payment form.

No. It doesn’t. The only option you have, if you want to use the voucher in your store account is to dump more money into your account from PayPal or Credit Card, and the smallest amount you can add is $10. Um, yeah … NOT! That’s sort of a scam, and it annoyed me. So I went through and selected items that equaled $14.25 and called it a purchase. How ridiculous is it that if you are using your voucher and you go over, even by just a few cents, you have to dump at least $10 more into your account to check out? Sort of an endless cycle, isn’t it, seeing as nothing in the store will ever end up totally exactly what you have in your account, and you can’t pay the overage with anything else?! So, yeah … annoyed enough I probably won’t be buying anything there again unless I really, really have to have it.

Anyway, I ended up with a package of two different bubbling springs packages, and a picket fence. I’ll probably find them useful somewhere down the line, and at least they were free.

I know you haven’t seen me posting anything done with Vue 6 lately. I’ve been playing with it, but mostly I have been really digging around and learning how all the buttons and options work, so there hasn’t been much to show for it. I’ll probably fire it up this weekend to install this new stuff and do some test renders, so maybe I’ll have something to show you next week. :)
