All About Food

This weekend we are going to shop at the Sunset Valley Farmers Market. Then I am going to compare the prices on the veggies to the organic veggie delivery service in town. If it ends up being close to the same, we may try them for one week. Next week I want to shop at the Austin Farmers Market and see what it’s like there. This transitional stage of deciding where we want to get what is going to be hard. Once the system is in place and we get used to it though, it’ll just be the way we do things.

Lin is already griping about having to get up early tomorrow and go to the market. Well, I am not going to make him go all the time, but I thought it would be nice if he went along the first time. Besides, it’s the market’s tenth anniversary this weekend, so that might actually be fun even though it is early in the morning.

It looks like we are expecting some pretty severe storms to blow through later today. Please no hail and high wind at my house! Please?!

My only real plan for the day is to run to a store to get some more tea bags and paper towels, and prep dinner so all I have to do is throw it together when we are ready to eat. Tonight is SciFi Friday, and I don’t want to miss a minute of the shows. Stargate is coming into its final episodes ever, and on Stargate Atlantis they killed off one of the main characters last week. The stories are getting very interesting!

I should make bread today too, but I think I’ll just make biscuits, and then I can use what’s left of them for breakfast in the morning. I’m thinking Lin won’t be nearly so grumpy if I make a big breakfast before we go to the market, and I’m sure shopping while hungry would be just as bad there as it is at the grocery store … best not to be hungry around a lot of food for sale.

Sleep evaded me most of the night, and this morning my eyes itch. Damn seasonal allergies! All the same, I am in some kind of wonderful mood today. I’m not really sure why, but I am, so I’m going to roll with it. Maybe I’m just loopy from fatigue.

Tonight’s dinner? Roast chicken with boiled potatoes, corn on the cob, biscuits and gravy. Good down home Southern food. I might make a salad too, but other than the fact we are producing less trash, I have also noticed that we are feeling fuller on less food. I think this healthy eating is a really good thing for us.

And can I make a confession? I’m proud of myself. Last night Lin noted that I conquered making both bread and pizza in the same week, and that I had turned out a healthy and luscious meal for every dinner. I didn’t think I could do it, but I did! The next thing I want to start making at home (again) is pasta. I used to make it all the time, and then I got lazy when we moved. No more laziness! I miss the way fresh pasta feels and tastes.

I’m off to play with kittens, run my one errand, get dinner together, and then be a couch potato this afternoon when it’s expected to be stormy. Though I am going to make those cookies today. We haven’t had much in the way of desserts or snacks this week, and I think we both deserve some cookies.
