Made it through shopping. Phew.
The score of the day was a dozen organic grain-fed, free-range, hand-gathered eggs from nesting hens. Very pretty brown color. I think I’ll save the shells for a mosaic. Can’t wait until Sunday brunch to find out how they taste. Just by looking at them, I can see the shells are thicker, smoother, and better formed, and the eggs themselves are heavier than the malformed, thin-skinned things I usually buy. I have high hopes there will be a flavor difference as well. Who knows, maybe I will learn to like eggs again.
The disappointment of the day was the lack of selection in bread flour. Going to have to find somewhere else to get flour if I end up making bread all the time. Unless the stuff I got today ends up being OK. We’ll see this weekend, because I am determined to make some bread. I even bought a small half loaf of bread in anticipation of my own bread turning out so great we wouldn’t need a whole loaf for the coming week.
I’m still wired from the Dr Pepper, so I think I’ll read some news until I start yawning. Then an antihistamine and a horizontal position will be in order. I hope there’s something good on TV tonight. If not, we have movies we still haven’t watched. Maybe tonight’s the night for Memoirs of a Geisha. :)
