OK, one little ranty thing I have to say before breakfast gets made:
We spend about $350 million a day in Iraq. We spend about $500 million a year funding the FDA who is supposed to be keeping our food supply safe.
It doesn’t matter if we find some way to kill every terrorist or other “evil-doer” on the planet, there is no way for the “homeland” to be secure if our food supply is going to kill us.
Priorities, people. Priorities.
this administration doesn’t really give a shit about our safety. as long as their corporate buddies/donors can make a profit off the war, and save some money by poisoning us, everything’s fine as far as they’re concerned. my dad works for the government and he says all this homeland security stuff is just useless politician-induced pork that gets in the way of the government doing what it’s supposed to be doing. (and puts more money in all the right pockets, big surprise.)
That’s the disgusting fact of it all. Greed of the few screwing over the well-fare of the many. That’s exactly why we, the people, the foundation of our supposed government, should be bitching LOUDLY. People, or rather corporations, are getting rich off of feeding us shit. We sell our good food elsewhere, and they buy shit to feed us. Beyond anything else right now, even the ongoing and fruitless wars, this food thing is pissing me right off. It’s bad enough many Americans live without proper health care (a tragedy, really), but now we have to worry about buying food? That’s just wrong.
And I just continue to shudder after reading stories about how very little imported food is inspected and just how much of it (particularly from China), even of the little bit they look at, is unfit for humans. Multiplied out to the full amount of said imports, it means all of us, each and every one of us, has more than likely eaten something we wouldn’t have or shouldn’t have without knowing. But people won’t bitch loudly if they don’t know what’s going on, and unless you keep up with this imported food issue yourself, you won’t hear about it on your evening news. My mom didn’t believe me, though I had been reading unreliable and made-up news stories, because she hadn’t heard anything about it on the TV news or in her local papers … until I started sending her links. Then she saw, I’m not making this stuff up!
Yeah, ignorance is bliss, until it kills you.
