Lost Appetite
May 20th, 2007 - 10:12 am
Not to ruin anyone’s appetite this beautiful Sunday morning, but I have been reading more news about Chinese imports … the sort of stuff guaranteed to make you want to vomit and definitely put you off your feed for a while. I’d rant, but I am attempting to maintain a positive mental attitude today, and I know some people are still wanting to remain in denial about the fact that we are all going to die and it’s all going to be the fault of nastiness in the form of foodstuffs coming from some other country. These stories sum it up well enough anyway. I don’t think I even need to rant about it.

Big holes frustrate food import safety net
I will quote this from the second link:
Milk protein concentrate, which enters the United States as an industrial-grade ingredient to make adhesives and which has never been subject to consumer-safety testing or given Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) status by the FDA, is now found in hundreds of adulterated cheese products, candies, chips, nutritional drinks and other processed junk foods.
For powerful corporations like Kraft, it is much more lucrative to import milk protein concentrate to make Velveeta, Mac n’ Cheese or Kraft Singles and hope pliant FDA officials turn a blind eye than to pay U.S. family dairy farmers a fair price for real domestic milk.
So no more Kraft products. That isn’t going to be easy. It’s a big company with its fingers in everything.
I’m going to move to the kitchen now and try to work up some willpower to make breakfast and then eat it. I really shouldn’t read the news before I have fully finished making, eating and digesting any meal, because right now, I am in no mood to eat … but I have to eat. It’s morning, and I am starving.
