UPDATE: My confusion has been cleared. It was a typo on the download page. :)
I continue to edge closer to total annoyance with E-on (makers of Vue 6). Still love the software, but the company itself is annoying me.
Today I got a newsletter informing me of a beta update for Vue 6. I’m thrilled, because I have run across some bugs I would really like to see squashed so I can fully enjoy using the software. I gleefully go to the software update page to see that there is indeed an update for Vue 6 Esprit. Then I read the text on the page before downloading it.
Warning: This update is for the Final Release version of Vue 6 Esprit only (version 6.05 build 289789). If you’re still using the Pre-Release version, please uninstall it and then download and install the Final Release version before applying this update.
Not wanting to screw anything at all up, since I have an install that is mostly working now (so long as I avoid doing certain things and reboot every few hours of use), I open Vue to verify the version I have on my computer … the version installed from the boxed set CDs, which one would presume to be the latest final release version. Well, I have version 6.05-4 build 289779. Ummm … knowing a thing or two about how software versions are numbered, this would seem to imply to me that the version on the CDs in not, in fact, the final release version, and that makes no sense at all to me. Additionally, it says to uninstall any older version, download the latest version and install that before applying the update. Well, I didn’t buy the download version. I spent the extra bucks and waited the extra time to get the box with CDs and a paper manual. There isn’t anywhere for me to download any latest version.
So color me a little confused and a wee bit annoyed. I’ve expressed my confusion and annoyance on the user forums, so hopefully someone will come along soon and enlighten me as to what is going on. If I haven’t heard anything by later tonight, I may very well pop off an email to tech support to try to find out how it is I waited over a month and paid them extra money for a set of CDs containing the final release version, and it appears that is not what I have.
In fact, the more I think about it, the more annoyed (verging on pissed off) I am getting. :puh:
