Deadly Pet Food

The tags in my newsreader that are set to bring me stories of sweet animals doing cute and furry things is not doing a good job of it today. So far, every story I have read has annoyed me. The one I just read is no different.

The other day I posted about the recall of a slew of different cat and dog food brands due to causing death and kidney failure. I was already aggravated about that, because it’s just a nightmare, isn’t it? Going about your daily business, feeding your pets what you think is good for them, and suddenly finding out it is either killing them or making them deathly ill?! Yikes. I hadn’t planned to keep up with the story too closely, because after verifying that my animals and the animals of my family and friends haven’t been eating any of these potentially deadly brands, it really didn’t effect my life much and would only annoy me further to hear the company hemming and hawing over the issue. Alas, a headline in my newsreader caught my eye, and I had to read the story.

As many as one in six animals died in tests of suspect dog and cat food by the manufacturer after complaints the products were poisoning pets around the country, the government said Monday.

So that’s how they are testing it to find out what’s wrong with it?! Not doing lab work, no … they are feeding it to cats and dogs to see if it kills them or not?! That just seems wrong.

If you have pets and haven’t already, please look into all the brands that are being recalled. The lists are long, and I would hate for anyone to have to go through the death of a beloved pet due to bad food.

I have to go find something else to fill my time until my software gets here. I can’t keep reading the news. It’s all just making me angry or depressing me.

I am angry that they kept saying it was a “small number” of animals that were sick or dying. I have heard from lots of people that their animals were sick and I know that the death of my Cat was in fact because of that stupid RAT poisoned food. My cat a Himalayan was sick for a week or so it seemed she may have been sick awhile and I just didn’t realize it but by the time we took her to the vet it was too late and a few days later we heard about that “BAD FOOD” so yeah I am very angry and depressed because Sugar was only 5 years old!!! And I am going to miss her very much. Thank GOD our dog is okay we took him to be checked and he seemed okay and stopped feeding him all those on the lists and found something from California to feed him. What are the people from Menu Foods going to do about all of us who have lost our beloved family members?.. They weren’t only pets they were a part of our family and now they are gone forever…

First let me say I am so sorry for your loss. It’s so unfair. My heart goes out to you. It’s a horrible loss. I’m glad your dog is going to be OK.

I read a news story a few days ago, can’t find it again, that said the number of pets effected could be in the thousands. I’d imagine many thousands, myself considering how many different brands were recalled. I think it was something like 1% of the pet food being sold? Well that means 1% of the pets out there have at least been exposed, if they aren’t already sick or dead, they might still have problems later that they wouldn’t have. It’s sickening to think about it. People trying to take care of their pets as best they can not knowing there’s poison in the food. Makes me so angry! I hope they go out of business.
