300

Finally got to see 300. We went to Galaxy 10 theater, which is a digital DLP system. There was also no line, no crowd, and we got the best seats in the house. This was my second time watching a movie presented in digital format, and I am prepare to say all movies should be seen this way.
The movie itself? Awesome. Loved it. It was everything I wanted it to be and maybe more. Though being the sort to notice every little continuity, scene, and prop error, there were some. There are always some. I have never seen a perfect movie in that regard. Didn’t take away from the sheer coolness of 300 though … or from all those sexy, sexy Spartans. ![]()
I’ll have more to say about it at a later time. I’m adrenalin-filled and full of war-like tendencies. I’m going to go poke at dandelions with something sharp and pointy while doing my best Spartan impersonation.
THIS IS SPARTA!!! ![]()

I knew you would love it. As I was telling a friend of mine-it was like they had a checklist. Flying head-check(check, check again…
Obligatory lesbian scene-check. Massive battle scene-check. And was it just me, or was Sparta the waxing capital of the ancient world? You knew the bad guys by the amount of body hair…
I think I am going to have to go see it again on the big screen I loved it that much. Definitely buying the DVD when it comes out. It’s a work of art combined with a great action movie. The best graphic novel/comic book to screen adaptation I have ever witnessed.
I read a lot of commentary on it the week it was out and I was waiting to see it, and now that I have seen it, I think a great many people have lost their minds. Really. I don’t see what the fuss is about. I saw no modern day allegory for what’s going on in the world now. I didn’t walk out of the theater with the impression gays were evil or that anyone that wasn’t white was a bad guy. I just didn’t see any of the stuff people are griping about, and as an avid movie viewer, I’m pretty good at picking up undertones and subtext in the theater. It was exactly what I expected … a Frank Miller graphic novel brought directly to the screen.
And the violence I was concerned about? Didn’t bug me at all. It was well done in a stylized form, though really, enough with the heads flying! That was a bit much, but it didn’t bother me either. Made me laugh, actually.
Was it historically accurate? Oh hell no, but then anyone expecting it to be is an idiot. I could point out hundreds, if not thousands, of movies set in historical times that lack accuracy. Does every historical piece have to be accurate? Only if it claims to be and wants to be a documentary type film. If every movie ever made had to be 100% accurate, we could forget about the genre of fiction, as well as myths, legends, fables and allegories. Every movie would be a Discovery Channel documentary, which I wouldn’t totally mind, but sometimes you just want to watch some sexy hunks doing manly things and enjoy a little escapist entertainment. Will some people walk away from it thinking it’s fact? Sure, probably. I mean people watch all sorts of things and take it as fact without thinking about it. We can’t be forced to protect the stupid from taking anything said to them to be truthful and accurate.
OK, not ranting now. I do have some ranting I want to do about other reactions to the movie. Me? I simply loved it.
Oh, and it was so funny, when Lin and I got home, we turned on the TV and watched some documentary about Alexander the Great … and saw yet one more head popping off. I lost count on how many heads flying I saw yesterday. I’m pretty sure it was a record.
