Bad, Bad Day
March 8th, 2007 - 3:51 pm
I am having an extremely bad day as far as my physical well-being goes. I’m not sick. No, my body is still functioning within normal parameters, but I am cursing being a woman today in all new cursing ways. I have never, in all my months of being a fertile adult human female felt quite this knocked down, kicked around, and generally pained by my body’s natural functionality. I look forward to menopause. I really do.
I think that is all I am going to have to say today. Maybe even for tomorrow too, though I won’t know until I crawl out of bed in the morning and assess my state of well-being. Here’s hoping I feel much better at some point this weekend. Lin and I have been waiting and waiting for the movie 300 to open. I can hear the wheels turning in some of your heads as you ponder the idea of Orb wanting to see a movie that is guaranteed to be a blood-fest. I know. It’s not the sort of movie I would ever go see on the big screen or even watch on a movie channel, but … I have been sucked in by the beauty of the film-work. I guess we’ll see afterwards whether or not I was able to overlook all the killing, head smashing, blood spurting, gore of a comic-book style Spartan war and enjoy how beautiful I believe the costumes, sets, effects, music and the cinematography is going to be.
And now, I am going to go take a pill or two, drink a small glass of Dr Pepper, pre-order a pizza for dinner, and go watch some TV while I wait for whatever relief comes from the pills to kick in. Then? Probably back to bed until it’s time to eat. Moving and sitting upright just isn’t working so well for me today.

I’m going to go see it at an Imax theater tonight. I can’t wait. And yes, I think it is going to be a total bloodfest but I want to see it as much for the cinamatics as anything else.
At least, unlike some of the slasher/gore movies that come out these days, there is a point and a story to the violence. It’s based on an event that actually WAS really violent and bloody. It would probably be silly to represent it in any other way. Besides, I seem to do better with overlooking ultra violence when it’s set in a historical context … and when the movie is a work of art. This one just looks so awesome, I have to see it on a big screen.
I wish the Imax here was going to show it, but alas, being in a museum, all they ever show is the educational stuff. I’m sure they’d never consider showing 300.
Let me know what you think after you have seen it. I am really just going to see the art of it. The trailers and stills I have seen just look too awesome, and after reading about the digital magic that went into it, I am psyched to see it all put together. Besides, Frank Miller rocks, and supposedly this movie is an excellent adaptation of his graphic novel. Can’t wait!
