Had a spiffy afternoon yesterday. We went to Target to get the cat food, kitty litter and other things our household could no longer live without … like Dr Pepper and frozen pizza. Of course we wandered around the whole store fondling things, like a pink Hello Kitty TV. We managed to resist any splurge spending (being broke always helps with that), but we did buy a rather realistic catnip mouse toy for the kitties. Yes, they are spoiled. They aren’t sure they like this new toy yet, but I did see Myu carrying it around by its tail earlier, so maybe once it smells more like the house and less like Target they will like it more.
Why a realistic mouse toy? I’d like at least one of my cats, just once in my life, to actually do more than stare at (or run away from) any small rodent that should make its way into the house. Of course, knowing how they love to bring all their toys up onto the bed in the mornings, this likely means that at some point I will wake up to find dead mouse on my pillow. All I can say is, they better make sure it’s really dead first.
After Target, we were both dying of starvation, so we drove around thinking about where and what to eat. We decided to go to Freebirds World Burrito. Sort of a splurge, but they are so damn good. This was the first time we each ordered our own, and so no one had to compromise of what got put on the thing, which means I got to have a perfect burrito for a change. Here’s what the monstrosity looked like before I unwrapped it:

Behind the cut, the grand unveiling of Orb’s Perfect Burrito (and a bit of babbling). :)
Here it is in all it’s glory, fully unwrapped and ready to consume. Look at the size of that thing! Mmmm.

And here it is after I cut it in half, which I did because I didn’t think I was going to be able to eat the whole thing in one sitting. Well, it was so good, I did, in fact, eat the whole thing in one sitting. I just couldn’t stop myself. It was too tasty.

What’s in it you ask? White meat chicken, black beans, Monterey Jack cheese, cilantro, guacamole, and lime juice all rolled up in a spinach tortilla. To die for. I wish they weren’t so expensive (about $6 each, but well worth it really). There aren’t many Freebirds in the world … in fact, it’s a Texas thing, but if you ever get the chance to go to one, do it. You won’t regret it, though you may regret how stuffed you are once you are done. Be prepared to sit quietly and digest for a while afterward. I think I went into a burrito coma, because I know I watched TV for some hours, but I can’t remember what I watched. I do recall thinking about what a great burrito I had just eaten and how I would eat another one RIGHT AWAY, if there was another one in the house … even though I was already too stuffed to move. :nahnah:
Oh, and while we were driving around, we noticed that the Old San Francisco Steakhouse on IH-35 closed down. I won’t really miss it, having only eaten there a few times in my life (too pricey for not such great food), but it was always there, and now it’s not. You get used to things being where and what they are after years and years of seeing them. Though I also noticed a sign out front that said a new Chinese buffet was going to be opening in that building, so there is definitely an upside to the Old San Fran going away. I look forward to checking out whether it’s going to be an acceptable substitute for the now burnt-down Buffet Palace. It might even, gasp, be better. :D
I’m going to make some stew for lunch from the leftover roast bits. Lin and I are thinking of going to IKEA today (finally), though being as it is Sunday, and we often think of going places on Sundays and never get any further than our computer desks, chances are high we won’t go to IKEA (dammit, I still haven’t gotten over there). Probably best to wait until we have something in our bank account anyway. I have the feeling I am going to get attached to the dining table I have been drooling on in the catalog, and well … I hate falling in love with something in person and then not getting to buy it that instant. It will only make me hate my current dining table all the more, and I already loath it more than I thought it humanly possible to loath an inanimate object. :peoples:
Ah well, I’m getting hungry. Time to make the stew, and when Lin gets out of bed, we can spend the rest of the day discussing going to IKEA until it’s too late to do so. In other words, it’s going to be a pretty normal Sunday around here.
