Monster Truck

I forgot I was supposed to post the photo I took of Lin beside his new truck. He is way too in love with this truck. Really.

Lin\'s Fancy Truck

If you’d like to see a larger copy of the photo, click the pic. In case you are wondering what he is pointing at in his hand, it’s a Bass beer. Is that a guy thing? Pointing at beers when someone takes your photo? I swear I have too many photos of guys holding beers and pointing at them.

Anyway, huge truck, huh? I forgot how high off the ground the seats are (about a foot higher than the Ford) and pretty much fell out of it in the Home Depot parking lot earlier. That’s me … the picture of grace at all times! Must remember to use the step when getting out of the monster truck.

  1. I swear Lin looks like one of the transportation guys here at UTSA. This picture actually made me do a double take (He drives the shuttle I ride every day because I have to park in BFE).

Lin does look good next to that behemoth of a truck!

  2. Lin will be hauling around work crews, large construction components (large rolls of wire and large pieces of metal stuff), and pulling trailers with heavy equipment on it (backhoes, mini-bulldozers, and whatnot). They do tower and fiber optics construction (and testing). Oh, and it’s for driving around looking like a project manager. You know, the Big Man on Campus concept. It’s perfect for what it needs to do, but wow is it a giant. :D

Oh he loves the truck. I think if we woke up one morning to find ourselves overly wealthy, the boy would rush right out to buy one of those big wheeled, five feet off the ground, jumbo trucks. He may have been born a Yankee, but after 16 years in Texas, he has now completely assimilated into the Big Truck Culture of Texas.

I had to laugh yesterday when Lin was installing the toolbox, the neighbor who has a fencing company came over and the two of them were oohing and aahing over the silly truck. Boys and their toys!

  3. Thanks. See, the mental image of that truck towing heavy machinery is a lot less otherworldly than the image of that truck being driven to a chain store even if you’re buying doors or somesuch.

  4. And yet, there are people around here who buy these things just to drive them to work as a status symbol. It’s a workhorse, people, not a daily driver! While we were driving around on Saturday, that was all too clear. It’s excessively powerful (when not pulling or carrying a load to slow it down) and the turning radius is awful. Just not the sort of thing you want to drive unless you have to and use as intended … to haul around really heavy things (which it does VERY well — I’ll have to get a photo of him hauling something big sometime).
