Above Freezing

It looks like Lin will finally be going to work again today. He’s been giggling because he started his new job on Monday, and then he got two days off due to the ice. Since he’s salaried and not paid hourly, it’s almost like an immediate bonus situation. I’ll be glad to have him out of the house. Yes, it’s completely possible to totally love someone and not want to be around them 24/7 for weeks on end.

The temperature is finally just above freezing this morning, but it’s still supposed to be raining and wet today. I sure could use some sunlight. I handle cold weather so much better when it’s sunny, and I have a hell of a time keeping myself on a schedule when it’s just as dark in the house during the day as it is at night. I’ve looked at the radar though, and the cloud cover seems pretty insidious. I doubt we’ll be seeing the sun for a few more days. Blech. Here’s hoping the weather isn’t too nasty so we can finally get out to a grocery store. I really needed to restock the kitchen last week, so now that we have been trapped in the house for a few days, I REALLY need to get some foodstuffs. No sense getting in a rush to get to the store though, as I have had reports my local HEB has been picked pretty clean and hasn’t gotten a shipment the last few days. Guess I am not the only one whose pantry is probably getting bare. I have enough stuff in the freezer to make two more hot meals, but then it’s going to be sandwiches and canned soup. After having that cold for so long and eating far too much canned soup during that episode, I am not looking forward to canned soup for a while. We better get to the store sometime in the next few days. I am burned out on canned soup.

The good thing about this cold spell is that I did a lot of knitting. I didn’t work on any specific projects, but I tried a few new stitches and learned a few new techniques. I’ve also become addicted to watching Knitty Gritty, which comes on twice a day now. While I do learn something new every time I watch craft shows, usually some little tidbit or easier way to do things, I have to disapprove of my addiction to TV programs that are on during the day. Normally, I don’t even turn the TV on until Lin gets home from work, unless I feel like watching a DVD movie, and now there is a block of a few hours of craft shows I want to watch every day. If I want to sit on the couch and watch several hours of TV every day, I am going to have to become more efficient at doing the housework. I don’t want to be one of those housewives that sits around on the couch while the house goes to hell. I’d much rather sit at the computer while the house goes to hell and pretend I am being productive. :D

Speaking of being productive, I should probably go to the kitchen and at least pretend to be doing some cleaning. Hopefully the mail will be running today so I can receive my shipment from my soap supplier. It’s a shame it didn’t get here before the ice did, but there’s nothing to be done about it. There’s also nothing to be done about the fact our trash pickup isn’t going to be happening until Saturday. We are overflowing with trash, which wouldn’t be a problem normally, because today would be our trash day. So two more days of full trash cans and a full trash bin with nowhere to put anymore. Ugh.

Yup, better get to that housework. My craft shows come on in a few hours, and I feel like being a slug on the couch when they do. Just because the roads are clear again and life seems to be returning to normal does not mean that it isn’t still way the hell too cold making me entirely miserable (and slug-like).
