I will never be able to sit at my computer and eat my microwavable insta-food breakfast again. We have kittens, and no amount of behavior modification can convince them that my eating at the desk is just like my eating anywhere else in the house and thus … no help needed from kittens. Truly, they go insane when I eat at the desk! Yesterday, Lin and I actually ate lunch at the kitchen table, which is the property of the kittens, and we only had to remove each kitten once before they left us alone. Not so at the desk. I have removed them from the desk hundreds of times while eating, sprayed them with the Water Bottle of Doom, made loud noises, and all of it for naught. Whatever it is I am eating at the desk is SO enticing, simply because it is sitting on the desk, they simply can’t help themselves … they have to be in the middle of it.
On one side, we have Ronin. I usually move my Mug-o-Water to sort of block his progress around that side of the computer, not that it actually impedes him much. He either walks over the printer to achieve his goal of getting to my plate, or he tries to crawl over the Mug-o-Water, as pictured here:

This morning his Over the Water maneuver ended badly with one of his front paws ending up shoulder deep in my Mug-o-Water … after about the tenth time I pushed him back behind the computer.
On the other side, we have Myu. She’s not nearly as aggressive about getting to my food (or about anything really) and after crawling around the other side of the computer (they have that flanking maneuver down pat), she’s fairly content to sit on the end of the desk and stare longingly while yawning sporadically to remind me that we COULD go back to bed, and that would be just fine with her … as pictured here:

It’s completely bizarre that I can sit anywhere else in the house, even on the bed, and eat the same things I eat at the computer in the mornings while reading the news, and while they may give my food a once over and a sniff, they leave me alone to eat and go about their kitten business. The moment I walk toward the den with plate in hand, both of them lose their little minds, and all they can think about is getting to my food. I’ll say it again … these kittens are mental!
And now, since I managed to stuff my microwavable breakfast taco down my throat quickly enough to avoid a total kitten onslaught, and because it’s awfully chilly in the house this morning, I think I am going to agree with Myu and head back to bed for an hour or so. They may be total terrors during my morning den meals, but they do make great snuggle partners on chilly mornings. :sweety:
