Democratic Slavedrivers

“The Democrats could care less about families — that’s what this says.” — Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA)

The Democrats, who aren’t even sworn in yet, are already attacking family values! How so, you ask? Rep. Steny H. Hoyer (D-MD), the new House Majority Leader, has declared that starting in January, our elected representatives will have to work five days a week. The horror!

For lawmakers, it is awful, compared with what they have come to expect. For much of this election year, the legislative week started late Tuesday and ended by Thursday afternoon — and that was during the relatively few weeks the House wasn’t in recess.

Next year, members of the House will be expected in the Capitol for votes each week by 6:30 p.m. Monday and will finish their business about 2 p.m. Friday, Hoyer said.

So Rep. Kingston, who was accustomed to flying home on Thursday afternoon and returning to Washington, DC late on Tuesday will now have to fly home on Friday afternoon and get back before 6:30 pm on Monday. Gee … sorry someone is expecting you to show up at your job for more than 48 hours a week.

Meanwhile, everywhere else in America, millions of people are hoping they get a day off this week and don’t have to work on Christmas. For some reason, my heart doesn’t bleed for our poor, poor elected officials.

Somebody, call the waaahmbulance! Our elected representatives are being forced to work! :bawl:

  1. Members of Congress currently earn an annual salary of $136,700, plus generous perks, pensions and benefits.

  2. Egads! That just means these guys will have more time to pass bad laws!!! Will we all survive! :)
    Oh, how I hate politics…

  3. I’d be thrilled if they actually started reading every word of every law they pass into being. I know I am dreaming, but a girl can hope, right?
