Windy Wednesday

Holy freaking hell is it windy today or WHAT?! I was awakened about an hour ago by two kittens nervous about the sounds of the house “breathing” due to my having left the kitchen window open last night. I’ll admit, if you aren’t used to the sound of air pressure changing in the house and making things creak, it does sound pretty weird. Poor things. Then I crawled out of the nice warm bed and pile-o-kittens to find the house was also COLD. That’s what I get for forgetting about the window. The furnace is now cranked to bring the temperature up in here to a respectable level. Brrrrrr … by Texan standards that is. It’s not really that cold, but when you’ve been snuggled in the sunny spot on the bed with kittens, pulling back the covers to find it’s only 60 or so degrees in the house is a real eye-opener. Or rather, it’s a toe-curler when you put your bare, warm feet down on your uninsulated wooden floors. That’ll wake you up! :D

My first thought upon opening my eyes, aside from how adorable it was that the kittens were huddling around my head looking nervously about the creaking room, was that I wanted to get out the paints and add some detail to the painting I did last night. Without even looking at it first, I laid there and dismissed the idea. I declared it finished, signed it and everything. It’s finished. I never put a brush to canvas after I have signed it. Done is done. After seeing it in the sunlight though, it really does need a coat of a semi-gloss varnish. I used titanium white in my mixing, and that always dulls the gloss of the paint, and these paints are rather dull to begin with. The varnish will make the colors “pop” a little more and bring out some of the brush strokes in the grey area. I am still happy with it though. Amazing that I am, but I am.

My next thought, while still laying in the warm bed under the pile-o-kittens, was that the bedroom walls need to be painted. Oh, they don’t NEED to be painted. I painted them when when moved in myself. They look fine. The problem is they are bright white and rather boring … sort of like a blank canvas. Lin and I briefly discussed colors for the bedroom walls a few nights ago, and of course, he’d like blue. He’d be just happy as a clam if every room in the house were painted blue. I like blue well enough, but when it’s in every room of the house, it’s just as boring as white. I’ll agree with him that it needs to be s subtle and calming color, but I have been thinking more along the lines of a warm gold or adobe color … with some stenciling of some sort … and wall sconces for lights. It’d be so easy to paint it right now, because there’s almost nothing in there. I think I’ll start looking at paint chips, and maybe this weekend I’ll pester Lin to buy me a few gallons of paint. Then they can sit in the corner of the room while I procrastinate for a few months about getting it done. :uhoh:

Then I pulled back the covers and my feet hit the floor and my only thought was getting to the furnace as quickly as possible and putting clothing on my body.

The housework planned for today is done. Lin is home at the moment. I am wondering if he’s available to give me a quick lift to the craft store. I really, really could use that varnish and a large soft brush … and some more canvases. I’m still feeling the need to paint.
