Oh Please

Three major donors have been financially carrying the state’s political parties this year, giving most of the money raised by the Republicans and Democrats in their state bank accounts, campaign reports show.

That’s the state of campaign contributions in Texas, and I think it really has to stop. No three people anywhere should be allowed to give so much in contributions to a political party or candidate that they personally make up the majority of contributions received.

What really roasted my goat was this excuse from one of the spokesman of one of the major contributors:

“It’s fair to ask if these large contributions have too much influence on the process,” Hoagland said. “But without these kinds of generous contributions, we would see the candidates and the party overwhelmed by contributions from the richest plaintiff lawyers in Texas.”

Oh, so if someone like Leininger wasn’t contributing that much, someone else would, and they would be able to influence politics in Texas. But of course, a wonderful person like Leininger would NEVER use his money to gain the power to influence politics in Texas. He’s just being REALLY generous, right?

Oh please.
