First Feel of Fall
September 19th, 2006 - 8:33 am
I made a huge steak dinner last night, and then I promptly fell asleep on the couch and didn’t wake up until this morning. What is with me sleeping so much these days? I guess I shouldn’t complain too much. Maybe my body is making up for all those years of not being able to sleep enough.
There’s a chill in the house this morning that feels like Fall. The floor is cool enough to my toes to warrant putting on house-shoes. Alas, I have determined that all my house-shoes are old and worn out. Guess who’s going to knit some new ones today! I better make Lin some too so he doesn’t get jealous. ![]()
Sorry I haven’t been babbling much. Aside from the kittens, there hasn’t been much going on around here, and I’d rather spend time playing with them than sitting here babbling about them … which is as it should be. I do have a rant developing in the deep recesses of my brain, but I woke up in a good mood today, and I don’t want to ruin it by spending a few hours gathering sources and ranting about the sorry state of the world today. I’ll save that for some morning when I am already in a foul mood … or when some internet commentary finally pushes me over the edge into full-on ranting and raving.
For now, I’m going to go fondle my yarn stash and pick out something comfy for house-shoes, eat some Hello Kitty Pop Tarts for breakfast, watch some news, and play with the kittens.
Oh, and it’s amazing that now the area behind the large furniture in the living room is clean and safe for kittens, they don’t seem to care much about getting back there anymore. It figures, right? Oh well, at least I can now ignore moving all the big stuff to clean behind it again for a while … like maybe another three years. ![]()

Orb,
LOL, you have been sleeping on that coach ever since I have been coming to your blog, and I don’t think you started that on the day I arrived. LOL
Have a question for you. When you say “Fall”, what temps are you talking about? I have never been to your part of Texas so I wouldn’t know what your idea of Fall is like. I always think of Fall when the temps are staying the low 60’s during the day and low to mid 50’s at night, the air has crisp clean smell, and there is no humidity, and hopefully the leaves will be turning colors. Long ago you could burn leaves, that smell to me spells, Fall.
Fall would be defined here as any day during which the temp doesn’t reach 90 during the day and actually dips down below 70 at night … and the air is actually humid as opposed to bone dry.
Leaves around here have two colors: green and dead brown. This year, thanks to the drought, they have mostly been dead brown.
Hey, it’s supposed to get down to about 53 degrees tonight when the cold front blows through. Yeah … I said COLD front.
Lin and I are both couch sleepers. I try not to pass out in the living room (or at least not stay asleep there), but at least one or two nights a week, I end up doing just that. For as ancient as our couch is it’s really comfy. We need to get another mattress. It needs to be as soft as the couches are to woo us away from sleeping in the living room.
