Apple Announcements

Yesterday Apple announced iTunes 7. This morning, I looked into whether or not to upgrade yet. Word to the wise: There are enough people complaining about various problems with the new version, I’d suggest waiting a while to upgrade. Normally, I’d just trust Apple and upgrade immediately, not having had any problems doing that so far, but really … lots of people griping about a lot of different problems right now like static during playback, slow load times, and even serious crashes of both software and computers. Yikes!

I’m not too crazy about the new layout of the iTunes music store either, but I guess I’ll adapt to that in time.

Also they came out with a new iPod that looks cool, redesigned the Shuffle and the Nano, showed off the upcoming iTV, and now you can buy movies (Disney only at the moment) at iTunes. None of this has any effect on my life. I’d like a big new video iPod, but as little as I use my Shuffle, I don’t really need one, and at $14.99 a movie ($9.99 for older ones), I’ll just keep buying my DVDs, thank you very much. I’ll say it again: If you want me to download a movie that’s at a significantly lower resolution than a DVD (doesn’t come with the extras either and has DRM attached), you can’t charge me the same price it would cost to buy the DVD.

And thus ends my report on Apple News …
