Zzzzz

I have figured out the problem, or at least one of the problems, relating to my sleeping, not sleeping, or not staying asleep. Lin’s snoring. When I go to bed before him and am either asleep or nearly so by the time he crawls into bed, no problems. I generally sleep through the night … unless he kicks me or something, which can make me wake up and stay awake. If I go to bed at the same time or after him, I am not going to get to sleep or stay that way long. He’s not especially loud, but it’s just enough to keep part of my brain awake, and when he does get loud enough to be truly disturbing, he sort of wakes himself up, tosses a moment, and that’s when I usually get kicked, nudged, bumped or what have you.

This isn’t the only reason I have trouble sleeping at night, but I’m sure it makes it worse. I’m going to have to start going to bed before him. I’m also going to get some melatonin this weekend to see if that might help. I have heard multiple reports that it does help. In the meantime, I’m going to go try to get an hour of sleep on the couch, and then I guess I’ll be taking a nap later today. I’m tired.

Oh, and just so it doesn’t seem I am picking on Lin for snoring: I snore too. I also make small grunting noises in my sleep and sometimes toss and turn horribly while dreaming. I have also been told I sometimes talk in my sleep. So I’m probably pretty damn annoying to sleep with too. Luckily, once Lin is asleep (and snoring), I don’t think anything I do particularly disturbs his sleep. I’d think he’d let me know if it did. He’s rarely one to hold back on stuff like that.

  1. I take melatonin on an irregular basis to fight insomnia and/or to kick start a regular sleeping cycle. I’ve had some good luck with it only causing a minimal amount of drowsiness/grogginess the next day.

  2. Not too worried about being groggy the next day, as I only want to use it for a while to get my sleep cycle back to normal or just on occasion when I just can’t sleep. Being groggy but well-rested beats being fatigued and not getting any sleep hands down. :D

Really, I just want to get some decent sleep for once.
