The White House accused the Democratic Party on Wednesday of catering to the extreme left after Connecticut voters defeated Sen. Joe Lieberman in a primary election over his support of the Iraq war.
“I know a lot of people have tried to make this a referendum on the president. I would flip it. I think instead it’s a defining moment for the Democratic Party whose national leaders now have made it clear that if you disagree with the extreme left in their party, they’re going to come after you,” he said.
What I am trying to figure out is how exactly it’s the Democratic Party’s fault that Lieberman is a reactionary Republican in sheep’s clothing and lost the primary. It seems to me the voters voted and had their say … they want Lamont to run as their candidate. I suppose the Democratic Party should have insisted that no one else from the party run a primary race against the reigning incumbent? Last time I checked the Constitution, elected officials aren’t elected for life terms, and quite frankly, I think all the incumbents need to be ousted and term limits put in place for future elected officials.
