Bright Tube Scarf

Here’s what I made while watching Eureka tonight! I grabbed the last skeins of bright blue, green and yellow acrylic and knitted them up in a long stockinette stitch strip (only 6 stitches wide). It rolls onto itself and makes a long, skinny, tube-like scarf. While it’s a little boring in this limp and lifeless acrylic yarn, I imagine in something fuzzy, sparkling, or otherwise unusual, it would look really cool. I’m getting all kinds of ideas, so there’s going to be a good deal of experimenting going on with these needles.

Now that I have my instant gratification needs filled, I am going to look for a project with a little more oomph to it. Not sure what, but tomorrow I am going to go through the patterns in my notebook and on my computer. I am bound to find something I just can’t wait to make. I always do. It’ll probably end up being another pair of socks or gloves. I haven’t knit any socks or gloves in so long, it’s going to be challenging all over again. I’m leaning heavily toward socks. I never did really conquer sock-making.

The only thing I am going to go conquer right this minute is a container of Fiji Apple Yogurt. Then … a Godzilla movie or bed.

  1. Just thought you might want to know that the picture of the scarf did not show up in Firefox, but when I clicked on it to see the larger version, it worked fine and I saw it. I use both Firefox and IE (beta 7) depending on my mood and what sites I’m visiting, so I haven’t tried it in IE yet.

  2. OK, now for some reason the picture is showing right after I left the last comment. Of course I’m still on the comments page of the entry so I will check again on the main page.

  3. NOW it works on the main page too. So disregard my earlier comments. Nice scarf by the way. I am really picky about the feel of yarns that are going to be next to my skin. I’m one of those people that can’t stand tags in clothes and have to cut or rip them out. I always have to make sure whatever yarn I get doesn’t feel the least bit rough or scratchy or you can forget me wearing it. I’ve had sweaters I’ve given away because the yarn bothered me. Luckily not any sweaters anyone has made for me and I haven’t attempted to make one yet myself…

  4. I don’t know what was up with my web site last night and this morning. That’s why I had to stop working on the new design … images weren’t loading right. No idea what that was all about.

I’m totally that way about labels in clothes and itchy-scratchy fabrics/yarns too. The yarn I used in this scarf is SO soft, and I’d wanted to make a halter or some bikini tops with it, but … it is the limpest stuff I have ever seen. Just hangs there, gets misshapen, and basically doesn’t work for anything but the simplest of scarves. Oh well, learned a lesson on that purchase, and now it can live out its life as a funky scarf that I’ll actualy wear (when theh temp drops –if it ever drops again).

Though I am sure it makes me look crazy, but when I am buying yarn that is going to be touching mine or someone else’s skin, I now rub the skein on the side of my bare waist. That’s the spot that always starts itching first when there’s a tag or scratchy fabric, and I can tell right away if it’s going to bug the heck out of me.
