This is why I love Metafilter (sometimes). First go look at this Reuters news photo on Yahoo News (link died — here’s a screenshot). Then read the associated Mefi thread: Does something in this picture look a little . . . off?

I think many of you will see the “something” that looks wrong in the photo (if it’s no longer there, there’s a screenshot linked at Mefi), especially if you do any digital work at all with photos. All I am going to say is … news photos, perhaps particularly from war zones, should never be altered in any way, but this one really goes way too far.

UPDATE: Either the link expired or the photo has been pulled. I can’t imagine why.
