There’s more crime and murders than ever!

Boy, I am sick of hearing that tired refrain. Almost everyone I know keeps saying that, and it is completely untue.

I’ll tell you what there is more of … 24/7 news, internet news sources, and in general everyone is getting more news from all over the country and world. In the past, there might have been a murder two states over, and we would have never heard about it here in Texas. Now we hear or read about every major crime in every state of the USA and around the world … all day and all the time. So yes, it can make it seem as though there is far more crime than there used to be, when in reality … that just isn’t a fact.

I’m tired of explaining this to people who consistently insist there is FAR more crime now than in the past. My closing advice to them is to turn off the news network that blares in the background all day long or learn to not pay attention to every report of murder or rape that happens somewhere further away than their own area. It never works. Some people just prefer to live in fear.
