Secret Service?

Not that I normally follow the goings on in the lives of Jolie and Pitt, but this story crossed my desktop today, and there’s something about it that bothers me.

Apparently Jolie’s brother took some photos of the happy family while visiting them in Africa. When he returned to the US, he took the camera in for repairs, and a few employees downloaded the images. While I won’t argue that’s a crappy thing to do and doing so (and then posting the photos on line) is most likely illegal, this irked me:

In an investigation on behalf of Los Angeles authorities, Westfield police, accompanied by state police and Secret Service officers, went to the home of William Keys on Tuesday to recover a digital camera’s memory stick …

Do you think if someone took photos of you or I, or stole our photos off a camera we took in for repair, that the Secret Service, or even the local police, would really be all that interested in tracking them down for us? I’m just guessing, but I think the answer would be a big fat NO.

It’s so nice that my tax dollars are going to Secret Service salaries to keep Brad and Angie’s photographs safe.
