Change is Good

Not that I planned to sit here at the computer looking at software packages, but that’s what I have been doing. It all started when Lin asked how well Bryce 5 was going to run on an Intel iMac … since I have almost convinced myself to go with the newest, latest and greatest iMacs out there (though I really wanted the PPC chip). That conversation and resultant research led to me remembering that I need to pick out graphics software for the Mac, because none of the programs I currently use have Mac versions.

Yes, not only will I be completely changing my entire computer system, I will be learning all new software as well. Change is good, or so I hear.

The last few days I have been playing around with Bryce again and recalling all the reasons I got sick of the software and lost interest in it. I just can’t get it to do what I want it to do in the way I want it to do it, so when I found out that some people have been having problems running the latest version of Bryce in the latest version of OSX, I was less than broken up about it. So I went in search of a 3D software package that a) I could afford and b) I would love. I found it in Vue Esprit 5.

I played around with Vue a long time ago, but at the time Bryce was a far better program. The opposite is now true. Vue kicks Bryce’s butt. Problem solved … Vue 5 goes on the software list. I’m going to get back into 3D digital art work. I never lost the desire to do it, I just reached a point where the frustration of both my aging computer and disgust with the software I was using zapped all joy out of working on it. That’s going to be changing very soon!

Now all I have to do is find a Paint Shop Pro type program I like. So far Corel Painter is high on my list, but I despise Corel almost as much as I hate Microsoft, so I’d really like to find something else, if something else exists (and not Photoshop in any form). If not, Painter is what it will be.

We are very close to realizing our goal of switching to Apple computers. It could happen as early as this coming weekend! I am so giddy, I could burst!

And now … back to doing the laundry.
