Willful Ignorance

The Earth is at the center of Robert Sungenis’ universe. Literally.
Yours too, he says.
Sungenis is a geocentrist. He contends the sun orbits the Earth instead of vice versa. He says physics and the Bible show that the vastness of space revolves around us; that we’re at the center of everything, on a planet that does not rotate.
Is it really necessary for us to leap back into the dark ages?
Meanwhile, Sungenis wants to make sure “people don’t classify geocentrists with Flat Earthers. We don’t believe that at all.”
Oh no, of course not! How could anyone believe anything as stupid as Earth being flat? Or … that the sun, the universe and everything revolves around a completely stationary Earth? You have to read the whole article to gain a true appreciation for this silliness, and do remind yourself that some 50% of Americans believe the planet to only be 5000-6000 years old … and evolution is a lie. ![]()
It’s to the point now that I can’t even blame these sorts of stupidities on the current state of education. No, this is willful ignorance all around.
The closing quote from Galileo is a keeper:
“The Bible was written to show us how to go to heaven, not how the heavens go.”

Don’t get me started. The things that people beleive (or don’t) would fill more volumes than currently exist. I didn’t think I was all that smart in school but it seems that I have retained more than a lot of people seem to have.
Younger people today think that WWII nazi Germany is a mith. I hope that we’re not doomed to repeat that.
And why do all of those little faces above this box keep looking at me?
There have always been crazy people that believed crazy things. What’s different now is that the crazy people are starting to lump together to believe these crazy things and now they are getting attention, which leads to more crazy people believing the same crazy things. I just can’t get over some of the “theories” that seem to be getting serious consideration these days. The earth isn’t rotating and the entire universe revolves around it?!?! That’s as nuts as saying that illness is caused by possession by demons and not germs.
The helicopter example in the story I linked would have had me rolling on the floor laughing if it wasn’t so sad that someone with a fantastic education hadn’t been saying it. I wouldn’t think someone would have to have a doctorate to understand that the atmosphere moves with the planet, so a helicopter hovering over a location is going to move with that location. If the atmosphere just sat there over a moving earth, I’m thinking the environment would be unlivable for humans what with the atmosphere scraping the planet’s surface at several hundred miles per hour all the time.
It’s really like a large group of us would like to stroll back through time and live in the medieval period … as if life was so damn good back then when no one knew anything and they just made shit up that seemed to make sense. It’s stupidity at it’s worst, and it just makes me freaking angry! I can forgive people who haven’t got an education, but people who have gone all the way through college coming up with this stuff is just nuts.
