Ho Hum

Didn’t make it any further outside than my own front porch, but it was nice to sit in the sun a while and forget about my web site. Of course, one of the neighbors, realizing I needed some form of entertainment and distraction had a medical crisis which involved an ambulance and firetruck screaming down the street. They were talking and moving when they wheeled them to the ambulance, so I guess it wasn’t overly horrible. I couldn’t tell who it was, but it was at the house that just got bought a few months ago from Sewing Woman. I kept meaning to go down there and introduce myself … it’s only two doors down … but hadn’t gotten around to it yet. I did wave at them when I drove by the other day, but they didn’t wave back. In fact, the guy sort of sneered at me when he looked at my car. These must be the new Yuppies who are moving in to “reinvigorate” our lowly neighborhood. I can’t wait until they start squawking about wanting sidewalks and proper drainage. I thought it would be a great idea too, since we DO get charged for these things by the utility company even though we don’t have them, but I can tell you right now that you cannot change the minds of middle-aged people who have lived here since birth. As it turns out, I now agree that sidewalks and proper drainage aren’t necessary … though I would like to not be paying for them every month. Do you see how insidious the group think is on my sleepy little street?! They even got to me!

My web site seems to be mostly resolving over here to the new host now, which is cool. I still haven’t heard back from my old host about canceling my account with them. Rest assured, I will be watching the bank statement the next few days to see whether or not they try to charge me for another month. They better not. I have a load of pent up aggression toward my old host, and I would just love an excuse to let them have it.

I’ve about had it with working on my web site today. I mean I have been pretty much sitting here doing nothing but that all day … though I know it certainly doesn’t look like it. I did get some of the background stuff worked out and the users and links imported. I had a few little problems too, as every server handles things a wee bit differently. Those were all sorted out really quickly. I’m pretty happy to be at a good stopping place now where at least what is here is working.

Now I really do have to get up and do something other than sit at the computer or sit in the porch. There’s dishes to be done, laundry to wash, a cat to feed and spoil, and a grocery list to make … not to mention planning something for dinner tonight. The choices are salmon (too much work), sausage (just had sausage a few days ago), or soup and sandwiches (just not hungry for that). Basically, there isn’t anything in the kitchen I want to make for dinner tonight. Doesn’t matter. If I don’t do the dishes, we won’t have any plates to eat off of anyway. Guess I better do the dishes first, huh? Maybe then I can convince Lin that we need to order pizza. I am so hungry for pizza.

Wow, that was a shock, an unadorned website. How unObish!

I was thinking Won Ton soup. Not the stuff in the shops with two won tons and bad broth, but soup thick with won tons stuffed with spiced pork (mostly garlic and ginger) and the secret ingredient, Seasame Oil! All wrapped in thick pasta Won Tons, simmered in a deep brown soup with chopped green onions and Japanese Soya Sauce. After making this a few times, I can zing out 50 Wantons in 15 minutes and the soup is done in 45 minutes and lasts for two meals for two healthy eaters. Oh yeah, the dishes. The only thing Janno and I ever fight about. Best to order pizza. If you want to do the soup, I can tell you how.

I used to make won ton soup a lot. Not sure why I stopped. I think maybe I made it too often and got burnt out on it. Now I’m into egg drop soup. Yum!

Probably should have ordered the pizza. My totally uninspired dinner of cheese, macaroni and sausage was less than savory or satisfying.
